Premature Ovarian Failure
Premature ovarian failure refers to a loss of normal functioning of your ovaries before age 40. The ovaries produce estrogen needed to release the eggs at the time of ovulation. When they stop producing this hormone, a couple may find it difficult to achieve a pregnancy on their own. Sometimes referred to as premature menopause, women diagnosed with premature ovarian failure may still have periods occasionally and may even become pregnant. Restoring estrogen levels can help prevent some of the complications of premature ovarian failure, such as osteoporosis, but infertility is harder to treat. Many couples choose In Vitro Fertilization using an egg donor to achieve pregnancy. Donor eggs may be utilized in ART in combination with your partner’s sperm for fertilization, embryo development and then transfer into the uterus.
